Project Overview
Ocean Boilers Improv is an improvisational theatre troupe based in Mississauga. I was tasked with creating a unique visual mark that would stand out from other local improv groups while embodying the troupe’s distinct personality. The client envisioned a logo with a handcrafted, camping-inspired aesthetic that also conveyed a sense of nostalgia and fun.

Sketches
This phase was all about exploring different ways to bring 'ocean boiling' to life visually. I tried out a variety of styles and elements, keeping the request to include a whale in mind. The sketching and ideation stage is my favorite—it’s where I get to play around with ideas, experiment without limits, and see where creativity takes me. It’s often where the best ideas come to life.

Client Feedback
The client was drawn to three specific logo concepts. They highlighted their preference for the bold, blocky typography and requested three variations that combined elements from the selected whale designs.

Wordmark
To bring the design to life, I created a custom wordmark in Illustrator. Working this way gave me a lot of freedom to experiment and tweak the design until it felt just right. The warp tool was such a great help. It made it so much easier to play around and creating different variations of the wordmark.

The client also mentioned wanting to see more hand-sketched wordmarks. Using Procreate, I was able to create these wordmark sketches.

Whale Illustration
In this stage, I presented three concepts to the client. I aimed to depict the whales sweating under pressure. The biggest challenge was ensuring the fins were anatomically accurate, but I’m proud of the final results

The Outcome
Through revisions and discussions, the client finalized the stylization and colors. Procreate was key in capturing the hand-drawn feel and texture they wanted. I’m really happy with how this logo turned out!
